I want to share something I have been pondering as of late and that is the value of options. If you ever want to see me get ornery in a real hurry, tell me I have only ONE option! Because, really, ONE option, means NO option. If there is only one thing I can choose, only one thing I can do, I am stuck; I have no freedom. Options translate to freedom. The more options we have, the freer we are.
That might seem like such an obvious statement why would I even bother to say it. But, the truth is, many of us forget, and often, just how many options we have, everyday. Oftentimes it's not so much that we don't have options, it's more often that we didn't stop to consider just how many options we really do have. And when we think we don't have options we can begin to feel STUCK. I could use examples from my own life to illustrate my point, but I am guessing that you have your own examples that would just as certainly apply.
If you are ever feeling "stuck" in a situation, a great exercise to remind yourself of just how many options you have is to make a list. (I'm a big fan of lists.) Write down every real option you can think of, even the craziest sounding ones (the options can sound crazy, but they need to also be "real" options or the exercise won't work). The point of the exercise is to remind yourself that while not every option you can think of would be a wise option, at least it is an option. You do have options; you do have freedom. Picking the best option is a topic for a different day. For now I simply wanted to highlight the fact that you just may have more options in your everyday life than you originally thought. Which means you are actually freer than you originally thought! And that is good news!
I wish you the best today, my friend, and that you would experience the joy that comes through the freedom of options!
