The shame of needing help

Getting help can be very complicated.  It can also leave people feeling shamed, as if their dire circumstances are a direct reflection of their level of worth.  We would like to consider some "outside the box" ideas on how to make getting help a little less complicated.  And, to help restore dignity to the process, so that people can feel less alone in their most desperate times.

For instance, we are interested in studying a variety of demographics of people who are in need.  We believe it is difficult to truly help someone if we don't know them.  We also believe it is difficult to truly help someone when we look at them with pity, disdain, or disgust.  Step number one, then, is to understand needs from a variety of different perspectives.  Step number two is to try to identify the specific needs, which really can only come by developing a sincere understanding of the people we desire to help.  Step number three is being open to finding real and effective ways to meet those various needs.

We want to try and figure out how to maximize our resources, energy, and creativity in order to offer some fresh new ideas.  Or, possibly revive some that were proposed before the world was ready for them.
